The all-new 2022 Honda Civic (FE) has just been launched in Singapore through a virtual event. It's the model's second ASEAN destination after its regional debut in Thailand just a week ago, and prices start from SGD 122,999 (~RM 383k).
New 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo
Like its suffix denotes, the sole 1.5 LX variant of the Singaporean-spec Civic is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder VTEC turbo mill, paired to a CVT.
Output is rated at 129 PS, with 180 Nm of torque. Yes, this is lower than what the Thai-spec car makes (178 PS, 240 Nm) or even the island state's outgoing Civic FC (170 PS, 220 Nm), but keep in mind that this is for Honda Singapore to qualify the Civic for COE Category A.
Meanwhile, the Civic also gets a drive mode selector (Normal, Sport, Eco). There's also paddle shifters resting behind the tilt & telescopic adjustable, leather steering wheel.
The new Civic builds upon a rather healthy list of kit. Coming standard on the Singapore-spec Civic are:
16-inch alloy wheels
Keyless entry and engine start
Leather/synthetic leather upholstery
7-inch fully-digital instrument cluster
9-inch touchscreen infotainment display
Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
But that's not all - the Singaporean-spec Civic gains 60:40 split-fold rear seats, a rear centre head rest and, more importantly, rear air-cond vents. These are notable additions that even the Thai-spec cars don't get.
Hurrah for safety as this Civic one-ups the previous generation by coming with Honda Sensing as standard fitment. The outgoing model didn't have it.
Key features bundled in this Civic's Honda Sensing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite are:
Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC, LSF)
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)
The last point - LCDN - is a new feature in general for the Sensing suite. Basically, it notifies the driver if the car in front has moved, via audio and visual alerts.
Other stuff in its safety arsenal include Honda Lanewatch, and 6 airbags.
Coming to Malaysia, but not so soon
Now that our neighbours across the Causeway have got it, it's a matter of time before any Malaysian joins the 11th-gen Civic's owners club. Recall that the model has been delayed for us - no thanks to the worsening Covid-19 situation.
