If you’re in the market for an electric vehicle (EV) but find the Nissan Leaf's lack of support for Type 2 DC charging a bit of a turn-off (it only uses Japanese Type 1 charging and the uncommon ChaDeMo port), perhaps this Hyundai Kona EV would be a better fit.
This Ceramic Blue example is currently available at Sime Darby Auto Selection, priced at RM 180,800. This 2018 example of the Kona EV was Hyundai Training Academy’s internal training unit and has covered roughly 18,000 km.

As a refresher, the Hyundai Kona EV is available with two output levels. The first is a 135 PS / 395 Nm variant, juiced by a 39.2 kWh battery, enabling a 300-km range.
The second variant, which is the one on sale, offers 204 PS and 395 Nm, powered by a 64-kWh battery pack. This variant offers a 482-km range.
According to Hyundai, it takes about 54 minutes to charge the Kona EV from zero to 80-percent using a 100 kW DC fast charger. If a DC charger isn’t available, the Kona EV can also be charged using AC, which takes about 10 hours to be fully charged.
Unlike the Nissan Leaf's charging ports, the Kona EV gets a more common Type 2 connector for AC charging and a CCS 2 connector for DC fast charging.
By virtue of being the higher spec variant, this Kona EV also offers additional kit such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, powered seats up front, a heads-up display, and Qi wireless phone charging.
Compared to the regular Kona, the Kona EV can be differentiated by its unique wheels and different front-end, the latter features a charging port under the Hyundai emblem.
