Though spied at Petronas Ara Damansara, these two cars aren't looking for petrol – you're looking at the 2021 Hyundai KonaElectric, months before their scheduled Malaysian launch in the fourth quarter of this year (Q4 2021), which we're in now.
Set to be fully-imported (CBU Korea), there are no indicative prices at the moment as the company is waiting on the government's announcement regarding EV policies.
In markets where it's currently sold, the Kona Electric is available with two output levels. The first is powered by a 39.2-kWh battery (135 PS / 395 Nm), enabling a 305 km range.
The second more powerful option is juiced by a 64-kWh battery pack. It makes 204 PS and 395 Nm, good for a 484 km range.
In the charging stakes, it takes about 54 minutes to charge the Kona EV from zero to 80-percent using a 100 kW DC fast charger. If a DC charger isn’t available, the Kona EV can also be charged using household AC power supply, which takes about 8 hours when hooked up to a 7.3-kW wallbox.
In other markets, the facelifted Kona Electric gets Hyundai's latest SmartSense ADAS suite, which features:
