It’s been a long time coming, but the Honda City Hatchback is almost upon us in Malaysia, as Honda Malaysia has just dropped a teaser of its upcoming B-segment hatchback. The caption "Move aside. Y? Because This. Is. It." is clearly referring to the Toyota Yaris.
Set to replace the ever-popular GK5 Honda Jazz, the upcoming Honda City Hatchback will aim squarely at the Toyota Yaris, mirroring the Honda City and Toyota Yaris rivalry.
First and foremost is a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre DOHC petrol engine that does 121 PS and 145 Nm, mated to a CVT transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
An e:HEV petrol-electric hybrid combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine and two-motor i-MMD full-hybrid powertrain will be offered as well, judging from the short teaser video.
Apart from that, variant and equipment levels are expected to mirror the City sibling, including the inclusion of the Honda LaneWatch camera, Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity, as well as the Honda Sensing ADAS suite.
One ace the City Hatchback has up its sleeve is the inclusion of Honda's trick Ultra folding seats, allowing for the rear seats to fold in various way to maximize space.
Prices and launch dates are expected to be announced over the next couple of weeks.
Between the upcoming Honda City Hatchback and Toyota Yaris, which is your pick?
