HSDM teases tax-free Hyundai Kona EV for Malaysia - Time for your first EV! 01

Hot off the announcement of zero excise, import, and even road tax for battery electric vehicles (BEV), Hyundai Sime Darby Malaysia (HSDM) has uploaded a teaser for the Hyundai Kona Electric facelift on its official Facebook page.

Looks like HSDM is keeping to its timeline, as the Kona EV has been tipped to launch in Malaysia before the year is out.

The Kona EV will be fully imported (CBU) from Korea and will be available in at least two variants for interested buyers.

This could mean that the Kona EV will be sold in both output levels that are available worldwide. The first option produces 135 PS and 395 Nm. Power comes from a 39.2-kWh battery that is good for a 300 km range.

The other variant ups the ante with 204 PS and 395 Nm. This variant is powered by a 64-kWh battery pack and offers a 482 km range.

Safety equipment includes systems like Blind Spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC aka ACC).

Charging the EV to 80 percent takes 54 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger.

As we’ve mentioned, when the Kona EV makes its debut in Malaysia, the car will be entitled to excise duty and import tax exemption as well as a 50 percent sales and service tax discount. On top of that, buyers will not need to pay road tax for the EV either!

But, we still have no word on how much the Kona Electric will be priced. Any guesses?
