The first 100-plus units of the locally-assembled (CKD) Porsche Cayenne have already been sold out within one week of its launch.
Deliveries will start in March 2022 and most of these first 100-plus units will be delivered before the SST exemption for CKD passenger cars expires on 30-June 2022.
The Porsche Malaysia dealers that WapCar.my spoke to added that demand for the CKD Cayenne have exceeded their own expectations several times over, and that the first batch of CKD Cayennes were all snapped up within the same week prices were announced.
Dealers also added that they are still accepting bookings for the Cayenne but will manage expectations of customers as dealers cannot confirm if these later bookings can still be fulfilled within the SST exemption period.
The CKD Porsche Cayenne will be produced under contract at the Sime Darby Motors-Bermaz co-owned Inokom facility in Kulim, Kedah. It’s first time Porsche has assembled the Cayenne outside of Europe.
Previously, the Cayenne was imported (CBU) from Bratislava, Slovakia, and had prices starting from RM 665,000 (with Premium Package).
Prices for the new CKD Porsche Cayenne start from RM 550,000. Standard equipment for the CKD Cayenne include:
LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
LED taillights
21-inch RS Spyder design wheels
BOSE Surround Sound System
Two choices of leather upholstery colourways
Four-zone climate control
Porsche Communication Management system
Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay
Porsche Advanced Cockpit
Buyers can also opt to pay more to customize their Cayennes with Porsche’s in-house Exclusive Manufaktur Package. For RM 58,000, the package adds sport exhaust system, SportDesign Package, tinted LED headlights and tail lights, as well as Porsche logo LED door lights.
The CKD Cayenne is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine (340 PS, 450 Nm), hooked to a 8-speed automatic transmission, driving all four wheels.
The lower range Porsche Macan will remain as a CBU, imported from Leipzig, Germany. At the moment, Porsche Malaysia has withdrawn prices of the Macan but that’s only because a new facelift Macan will be announced soon, estimated within the first half of 2022. The Macan was last sold at RM 439,351.
