This is why the new 2022 Perodua Myvi dropped the manual option

Headlining the launch of the new 2022 Perodua Myvi is the brand-new Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT), replacing the tried-and-tested four-speed automatic unit.
Apart from the new CVT, Perodua has also dropped the 5-speed manual option – an option that was offered since the third-generation model made its debut back in 2017.
Why did Perodua drop the five-speed manual you ask?
WapCar.my asked this question to Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, and the respond we received was hardly surprising.
According to Perodua’s boss, the short and simple answer was that the take-up rate for the manual was too low. Perodua sold 277,329 units of the third-gen Myvi, and less than 1% of the Myvi buyers opted for the stick shift option, translating into less than 3,000 units sold over a 4-year period.
No surprises why Perodua opted to axe the manual then.
It’s a similar case as the recently-updated Proton Iriz and Proton Persona – both of Proton’s B-segment offerings also recently dropped the stick shift option, citing poor sales as a reason for discontinuing the manual.
At the end of the day, like Proton, Perodua is running a business and not charity. Despite the average automotive enthusiast’s #SaveTheManuals sentiments, they don’t buy enough brand-new manual cars for manufacturers to justify their investments.
If you want a stick shift Perodua, your options are limited to the base variant of the Perodua Axia, Perodua Bezza, or Perodua Alza – the latter will be discontinued real soon.
