With Porsche Malaysia’s historical local-assembly of the Cayenne in Malaysia; marking the first time a model under their badge has been manufactured outside of Germany, the demand for Porsche-trained technicians is expected to accelerate as fast as the cars they make.
Taking this into consideration, Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has further committed itself towards the Malaysian automotive industry with as it introduces a new factory-enriched technical training programme in partnership with TOC Automotive College (TOC).
Dubbed the Porsche Training Academy-Apprentice Programme (PTAAP), the programme will ensure that the local workforce supports the high-quality service requirements needed at Porsche Centres nationwide and addresses future growth plans by the brand in the region.

The programme will be a “2+1” year course that places equal emphasis on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills expertise. Students will be absorbing a wealth of knowledge at both TOC classrooms and Porsche Centres.
Being the advanced, physics-defying machines that they are, Porsches demand the best hands and the programme ensures its graduates can handle this with a two-year classroom syllabus and workshop-based curriculum.

A dedicated Porsche technical trainer will also go through specific Porsche International Zertifizierter Porsche Techniker (ZPT) modules to allow for a greater understanding of these high-performance machines from Zuffenhausen… and now Malaysia.
Throughout the course, students will be routinely assessed to ensure knowledge retention remains at a high level.

TOC prides itself on its ability to provide hands-on experience to its students and the same applies here. At the end of the two-year hybrid curriculum, students are immediately given the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge via a compulsory one-year on-the-job training period at Porsche Centres nationwide.
Once the three-year period is up, an overall evaluation is conducted. Those that meet the passing mark are presented with a Porsche Certified Technician Bronze Level certification, together with a TOC programme certification of their choice, either the Diploma in Automotive Technology or the Master Technician Course.
“Nurturing young technical talent from the beginning whilst upskilling our current workforce, we aim to equip our local talent with this culture of collaboration with a like-minded partner like TOC,” said Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP); the local stewards of the Porsche brand.
