The 2022 Volvo XC60 facelift has two variants on offer in Malaysia - B5 Momentum and Recharge T8 Inscription Plus, priced at RM 292,266 and RM 325,449 respectively (prices are OTR without insurance and SST).

The B5 Momentum variant has replaced the previous T5 Momentum; B5 denotes a mild-hybrid powertrain, details of which will be explained shortly.

Changes to the Volvo XC60 are subtle and in this article, we’ll take a closer look at both variants of the facelifted Volvo XC60. Before we start, we’d like to extend our appreciation to Federal Auto Cars for making this photo session possible.

2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum

Compared to the pre-facelift model, the front bumper has more angular lines and the “fog light” housing at the sides extends vertically with a chrome piece slicing across. It looks fairly similar to the Inscription variant save for the chrome strip on the lower half of the bumper.

The slats in the front grille are also slightly different, but that’s almost going way too much into details.

From the side, the most obvious change would be the new set of dual-tone 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/55 profile tyres, replacing the previous silver 18-inch wheels.

Over to the rear, eagled-eyed fans would notice the B5 badging and the lack of exhaust tips. The lower section of the rear bumper is now body-coloured instead of black from before.

Inside, the B5 Momentum now gets the 14-speaker 600-watt Harman Kardon sound system and a new look for the digital instrument cluster while the rest of the interior remains largely the same.

The highlight of this facelift exercise is the new infotainment system that runs on Android Automotive OS. It now integrates Google services like Maps, Play Store, and even the voice-activated Google Assistant.

Power in the XC60 B5 Momentum comes in the form of a mild-hybrid 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 249 PS/350 Nm. The 48-volt mild hybrid system has a 13 PS Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), replacing both the starter and alternator.

The system allows for braking energy to be recuperated for improved fuel economy and a significantly smoother stop/start operation of the engine. Power goes to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus

On the Recharge T8, the lower section of the front bumper now has a chrome strip that runs across the width of the car. 

The vertical slats on the front grille are subtly redesigned as well. It also gets a new set of wheels, measuring 19-inch in size.

At the rear, it’s mostly similar to the B5 Momentum and the distinguishing item would be the chrome piece at the lower part of the bumper.

Moving inside and again, largely similar to before. Like the B5 Momentum, the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system now runs on Android Automotive OS with Google services integration.

The Recharge T8 gets “Driftwood” inlays and leather upholstered dashboard, Orrefors crystal gear knob, and the 15-speaker 1,100-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Alternatively, buyers can opt for Linear Lime Decor Inlays (darker shade of wood) with Maroon Brown Upholstery and Charcoal Headliner. This is available for the B5 Momentum as well.

Features exclusive to the Recharge T8 include memory function for the front passenger seat, cushion extension for the front seats, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, and 360-degree camera.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder engine, paired to an 8-speed automatic that spins the front wheels, plus an electric motor over at the back to handle the rear wheels to give a total output of 407 PS/640 Nm.

Both variants of the 2022 Volvo XC60 facelift feature the full ADAS suite of IntelliSafe with AEB, LKA, CTA, BLIS, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Run-off Road Mitigation. There’s also Pilot Assist, a level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature that provides assistance from stationary up to 140 km/h.

Currently, the pre-facelift 2021 model year Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge is still available at Federal Auto Cars, with goodies worth up to RM 31k when you buy a new Volvo.

For those who are looking for a great deal, the pre-facelift XC60 is still well-worth considering as changes in the facelift are relatively minor and the running changes over the years have kept it fresh.
