Your crankshaft that is and other engine internals. While they’re protecting your engines’ internals, they’ve also got some stuff to keep your externals looking fresh. Proton’s motorsports arm; R3, has been quiet for a while but a comeback is being mounted; starting with a line of engine lubricants and apparel.

Ever since the Geely partnership, R3 has been on the backburner for a while as major transformations towards the mainstream models got underway. Now that things have settled a little, R3 is aiming to reconnect with fans and expand the reach of the brand.

Rich in motorsports history and heritage, R3’s reignition into life starts with the brand now parked under Proton Global Services (PGS); a fully owned subsidiary of Proton Edar.

On the performance side of things, R3 has launched a range of engine oils developed together with Petronas; a longstanding lubricant partner for the carmaker. The duo also worked together to develop the existing range of Proton Genuine Oil lubricants.

For starters, two grades of lubricants are available. There’s a fully-synthetic formulation labelled P1 that comes in a 5W-30 viscosity while the second grade is a semi-synthetic formulation aptly labelled P2 and in a 10W-30 viscosity.

Both P1 and P2 genuine oils are formulated using Petronas’ latest Etro 6+ base oil and are designed to fight excessive heat to ensure better performance for the current generation of direct injection turbo charged engines. With SP and SN Plus ratings, they meet the highest levels of certification by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

They will be sold to the public via our Premium Merchandise Partners in 20 locations throughout Malaysia. There will be more product launches coming up in the future, including accessories for Proton car owners, which will help us build our connections with R3 fans,” said Lee Yeet Chuan, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Global Services.

The R3 Premium Genuine Oil is priced at RM 208 for the P1 fully-synthetic formulation and RM 158 for the P2 semi-synthetic product. However, they will be offered at an introductory price of RM 178 and RM 128 until 30 April 2022. The new range of t-shirts and caps are priced between RM 49 to RM 60 and will also be available at all Premium Merchandise Partner locations.

“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
