The all-new 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk8 and Golf TSI R-Line are almost upon us, as the iconic hatchbacks will be launched in Malaysia later this month. Both models will be locally-assembled (CKD) at Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM)’s plant in Pekan, Pahang.

According to a post in the VWClubMalaysia Facebook group, in conjunction with the launch of the all-new VW Golf, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) will be organizing a free track day for Golf owners at the Sepang International Circuit.

Under the hood of the Mk8 Golf TSI R-Line is a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-pot making 150 PS and 250 Nm, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The hotter Golf GTI gets a larger turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that does 245 PS and 370 Nm, with drive routed to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG).

Owing to the new Golfs' local assembly (CKD) nature, expect prices for both cars to be slightly cheaper than the last-gen, imported Mk7.5 models.

As a brief recap, previous generation Mk7.5 Golf 1.4 TSI was last priced at RM 174,100, while the Golf GTI retailed at RM 240,030.
