  • BMW cars delivered over 8,400 units, down 5.6 percent from year 2020's 8,903 units
  • Leads Mercedes-Benz to retain No.1 selling premium car brand in Malaysia for second consecutive year

BMW Group Malaysia announced today that it delivered over 10,500 vehicles in 2021, down 4.7 percent from the year before. The group’s total sales include over 8,400 BMW cars, over 1,100 BMW motorcycles, and over 940 units of MINI.

Sales of the company’s namesake BMW cars were down about 5.6 percent, from 8,903 units recorded in year 2020, while MINI was down by about 4.7 percent, from 987 units.

Despite the contraction, the BMW Group still holds the No.1 position in the Malaysia premium vehicles segment, its second consecutive title, with BMW cars controlling a 47 percent market share, and MINI holding the No.3 premium car brand title.

Nearly one in every 3 BMW car sold in Malaysia is a 3 Series, contributing 28 percent of BMW cars’ total sales of over 8,400 units. The entry BMW 320i, priced from RM 249,389 is the most popular variant.

The next two most popular models are the 218i Gran Coupe (from RM 221,817), with over 1,270 units delivered, and followed by the BMW 5 Series, with 1,150 units. The 530i M Sport (from RM 391,856) is the most popular 5 Series variant.

As for SUVs (or SAVs, as BMW insists), the BMW X family saw over 3,200 vehicles delivered, led by the X1 (over 960 units), followed by the X5 (over 850 units).

The MINI Countryman accounted for over 68 percent of MINI’s total sales of over 940 units.

Meanwhile, the group’s financing arm BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia financed over 5,500 vehicles, or over 50 percent of total vehicles delivered, including BMW Motorrad.

The recently announced BMW X3 xDrive30e M Sport plug-in hybrid (from RM 348,138) is the latest model to join the list of CKD models, which now totals 18 variants and models.
