After a police report was made over a viral video where an ambulance was directed to stop for a VIP convoy in Johor Baru, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has stepped out to explain it was due to safety precautions.
According to a report by The Star, the decision by the two traffic police officers to stop the ambulance on Saturday (5-March-2022) was to avoid a collision with the passing convoy.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abdul Wahid said that the police officers were on duty to control traffic in conjunction with Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia at Angsana Mall Johor Baru at the time of the video.
“The ambulance was coming from Jalan Danga Bay heading towards Skudai," she said in a statement on Monday (March 7).
She further explained that during the time of the video, the convoy was already passing the junction and heading towards the event venue. If the ambulance had been allowed to proceed, a collision would have happened with the vehicles in the convoy.
“The two policemen allowed the ambulance to depart after the convoy had left the area," she said.
ACP Rupiah added that the case is now investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code.
She further requested social media users to refrain from posting comments and misleading information to avoid public disorder.
