  • Malaysia's CX-5 facelift won't arrive so soon

For those waiting for the sleek new 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift to launch in Malaysia soon, sorry to burst your bubble as Indonesia is set to get it ahead of us. For the Indonesian market, the Mazda CX-5 is imported (CBU) from Japan.

It also marks the arrival of the updated CX-5 in the ASEAN region.

PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (PT EMI) has dropped a teaser of the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift at the ongoing Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW). Our colleagues over at Autofun Indonesia mentioned that the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift will debut on 1-April 2022.

Although Mazda has a plant in Kulim that assembles the CX-5, the model's local launch won't happen so soon as there is a lead time required for local assembly. Earlier, we estimated that the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 could launch here in late-2022 or early-2023.

Only 1 powertrain is offered there: a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine capable of delivering 190 PS at 6,000 rpm and 252 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is hooked up to Mazda’s tried-and-tested 6-speed torque converter automatic.

As a brief recap, Mazda debuted the updated 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift in September 2021, bringing with it refreshed styling, a new colour, as well as revised suspension tuning. The model went on sale in Japan two months later in November 2021.
