  • 2022 Honda Civic FE hybrid sedan makes world debut in Thailand
  • 184 PS / 315 Nm possible but not confirmed, more powerful than VTEC Turbo
  • VTEC Turbo RS variant discontinued in Thailand, replaced by e:HEV RS

The 2022 Honda Civic (FE) e:HEV hybrid has just made its simultaneous debut in Europe and Thailand earlier today, with the hatchback aimed at Europe, the sedan for the rest of the world.

In Thailand, order books are now opened for the Honda Civic sedan e:HEV. Two variants are available – RS and EL+ - both powered by a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle DOHC naturally aspirated 4-cylinder, with an e-CVT paired to a 2-motor i-MMD full-hybrid, basically the same setup as the Accord e:HEV hybrid.

Honda Automobile Thailand have yet to confirm the power output of the Civic e:HEV but the European market hatchback variant with the same drivetrain makes 184 PS and 315 Nm.

That’s actually more powerful than the Civic 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo’s 178 PS / 240 Nm (Thailand specs, Malaysian specs make 182 PS / 240 Nm), but of course, output could be adjusted to make it compatible with Thailand’s E10 gasohol fuel.

As for prices, Honda dealers in Thailand are communicating to customers that the e:HEV EL+ variant will be priced below THB 1,150,000 (about RM 144.7k ), while the highest specifications e:HEV RS will be priced below THB 1,270,000 (about RM 159.8k).

Note that prices will appear inflated when converting from Thai Baht to Malaysian Ringgit due to our weaker Ringgit.

The highest specs e:HEV RS will replace previous VTEC Turbo-powered RS, which has since been discontinued in Thailand.

With this, it also means that the highest specifications Civics in Thailand are now hybrid only.

Closer to home, the Civic e:HEV will likely be introduced in Malaysia but not this year.

At the local launch of the 2022 Honda Civic in February, CEO Ms. Madoka Chujo said, “Honda Malaysia is planning to expand our hybrid line-up and and Civic on the list for future hybrid development. The details will be shared once it’s available.”
