At the ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2022, Chery officially made its launch, or should we say, comeback as the Chinese carmaker was once sold in Indonesia from 2006 until 2012. Chery kicks off its renewed, stronger commitment to Indonesia and ASEAN with the theme ‘Feel the Difference’.
President of Chery International, Zhang Guibing said that Indonesia is one of the most promising markets in the world and is an important strategic market for Chery in Southeast Asia. He said that Chery will take the Indonesian market seriously and strive to bring advanced technology and intelligent products to Indonesia.
This is shown in the Chery Omoda 5, the latest SUV model which made its first appearance outside of China at IIMS 2022. The highly anticipated SUV is making buzz in China over its brash and distinct style as well as in Malaysia where it has a dedicated official Facebook group.
Besides the globe-trotting Omoda 5, Chery also has the Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro, and the all-electric EQ1 on display at IIMS 2022. The pair of Tiggo Pro SUVs were previewed to the Indonesian media in January and this is the Indonesian public’s first view of the exciting line-up Chery has to offer.
Chery aims to achieve a network of over 100 outlets throughout Indonesia within the next two years covering major cities across the archipelago. It also plans to establish parts in the four core islands (Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi) to provide fast parts supply and aftersales service.
In addition to meeting Indonesian customers’ needs, Chery will also turn Indonesia as a base of export to other ASEAN countries and regions. Last we reported, local assembly (CKD) could start in June 2022.
What about Malaysia? Well, besides generating buzz through the Omoda 5 Facebook group, Chery is also trying to gather buzz online through its official Facebook page. It might be returning to Malaysia by Q3 2022 and based on the line-up, it is certainly nothing like its past offerings including the surprisingly popular Eastar MPV.
