![2022 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro to be the first CKD model in Indonesia, launching in June 01]()
Hot after its official comeback at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2022, Chery isn’t going to rest on its laurels after previewing its exciting line-up of models to Indonesians. In fact, it will be launching its first locally-assembled (CKD) model, the 2022 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro as early as June.

According to our colleagues at sister site AutoFun ID, the Anhui-based carmaker is currently in the midst of setting up an assembly plant in Bekasi with PT Handal Indonesia Motor and the Tiggo 7 Pro will be the first Chery model to be made there.

General Marketing Manager of PT Chery Motor Indonesia, Rifkie Setiawan spoke to AutoFun ID that preparations have started in March and the plant could be operational by the end of April. Chery plans to launch the SUV in the archipelago in June with first deliveries to customers to begin in August.

Besides the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, the 7-seater Chery Tiggo 8 Pro has also been earmarked for CKD production in the country. The Tiggo 7 Pro will compete against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Wuling Almaz, two of Indonesia’s best-selling C-segment SUVs.

Chery has previewed 6 models at the recent IIMS 2022 including the Omoda 5 which made its debut outside of China. Rifkie told AutoFun that the Chinese carmaker will be launching 4 models in 2022 with plans to double the line-up to 8 within two years.

The Bekasi plant will be the 7th Chery plant in the world and the Chinese carmaker has bigger plans for Indonesia. The archipelago will be the regional base for the right-hand drive (RHD) market with plans to set up an R&D centre to study the Indonesian and Southeast Asian markets.

With Chery staging a comeback in Indonesia, it has also set its sights on other markets in the region including Thailand and Malaysia. Back home, Chery is increasing its online buzz by setting up a Facebook page and an official Facebook group for the Omoda 5.
