Yes, when exactly is still a question that’s yet to be answered, but we do know that the all-new 2022 Perodua Alza (D27A) is a hotly-awaited model that’s launching in Malaysia this year.
As we gear up for Perodua’s 7-seater, let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Full ADAS, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too?
Research and development for the MPV are now in its final stages of testing and pilot production, and we understand that Perodua’s manufacturing plant in Rawang has completed retooling to cater to the new model.
Like the Perodua Ativa, the next Alza will be a Toyota/Daihatsu co-developed product, with the base cars here being the Toyota Avanza and the Daihatsu Xenia. As that’s the case, the next Alza will ride on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), and will be front-wheel drive.
A 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder is all but confirmed to power the Alza, most likely shared with the 2022 Perodua Myvi facelift. This means the 2NR-VE engine (106 PS/137 Nm) that’s paired to a D-CVT automatic gearbox.
Some sources have gone into deeper detail on what to expect. Of those, said sources said the Alza will come with a drive mode selector, LED head- and tail lamps, as well as 7-inch digital instrument cluster a la the Ativa.
Tantalisingly there’s also mentions of the Alza receiving a 9-inch touchscreen headunit that will bundle Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As nice as that sounds, this is still yet to be confirmed, much like the details in the preceding paragraph.
That said, something that we can look forward to is the next-gen Alza receiving a full suite of ADAS in the form of the Perodua Smart Drive Assist, PSDA.
Something something ‘no free lunch’, all these goodies in the next-gen 2023 Perodua Alza will translate to a higher starting price. Currently, the outgoing Alza is priced from RM 49,944 to RM 60,525.
