Lexus RZ expected to launch in Malaysia in 2023
Registration of interest open
313 PS, AWD, 450 km
Lexus Malaysia is expected to launch its first dedicated battery EV (BEV) model, the Lexus RZ here next year. Details are lacking but the company’s official website now has a page introducing the Lexus RZ, and below it is a registration of interest section.
When asked to comment on the prospects of the Lexus RZ being launched here, Lexus Malaysia said the model is being studied for our local market but stopped short of confirming when it will be launched here.
“We will share more information at a later time,” said the company’s spokesperson.
Features like Direct4 all-wheel drive and steer-by-wire yoke steering wheel are mentioned on the Lexus RZ’s introduction page, suggesting that we will be getting the highest specifications variant with all the options ticked.
Prices have yet to be announced as the model will only go on sale in USA, Europe, and Japan by end-2022.
The Lexus RZ rides on the same e-TNGA platform as the Toyota bZ4X (and Subaru Solterra).
It’s powered by a 71.4 kWh battery, delivers up to 313 PS of power, with an estimated range of 450 km (J-WLTC, a Japanese version of the WLTP test cycle).
Power is delivered to all four wheels via a Direct4 all-wheel drive system, delivering what the company describes as Lexus Driving Signature, honed and refined at the company’s famed Shimoyama technical centre - the mini-Nurburgring track where Toyota’s finest GR models are developed.
Two steering wheel options are offered, a mechanically-linked traditional round wheel or a steer-by-wire ‘yoke’ one, the latter eliminates the need for shuffling / hand-over-hand movements when making tight turns.
