Mazda will build a value chain to utilise nex-gen biodiesel fuel in Hiroshima. The effort aims to spread the use of next-generation biodiesel for automobiles. The biodiesel is based on microalgae and waste edible oil.
The construction of the biodiesel value chain and the start of the fuel utilization is part of the Hiroshima “Your Green Fuel Project”. The project is a demonstration for next-gen biofuels jointly run by the Hiroshima Council.

Mazda confirms that the microalgae and waste-oil-based biodiesel delivers the same performance as its petroleum diesel equivalent. Mazda believes this is a superior automotive fuel that does not require additional fuel supply infrastructure.
Mazda and the other companies (Family Mart, Euglena, UEDA) will work as a business mechanism to realize the use of the next-gen biodiesel in the Hiroshima region.
Future plans include using microalgae residue as fertilizer and feed for agriculture, livestock, and fisheries.
