The adorable Suzuki Jimny may soon find itself a new rival in the form of the revived Mitsubishi Pajero Mini. The revived Pajero Mini could arrive at Japanese dealerships as soon as 2024.
According to a report by Best Car Web, Mitsubishi is currently leading development work for the pint-sized SUV, which will also be rebadged as a Nissan model, Mitsubishi’s Alliance partner.
Speaking of Nissan, its version of the revived Pajero Mini could be called the Nissan Kix, a throwback to Nissan’s version of the Pajero Mini from the nineties.
As for powertrain options, Best Car Web speculated that the Pajero Mini and its Nissan cousin could borrow engines from the Nissan Dayz and Mitsubishi eK, including regular 660-cc petrol engines, as well as mild-hybrid (MHEV) and electric (BEV) versions.
Whether or not the revived Pajero Mini could be offered outside of Japan remains to be seen for now. In Japan, Suzuki sells a Kei car-sized Jimny powered by a tiny 660-cc engine, as well as the widebody Jimny Sierra, powered by a 1.5-litre engine. The latter is sold overseas as the Jimny.
