Annoyed by congested LRTs? It's not going to improve until September 2022

The longer five-minute train interval caused by on-going LRT upgrading works is not enough to disperse the crowd taking the train, as a video of a badly congested LRT platform has surfaced online.
Although it is not stated where exactly is the train station in question, but the number of people coming up the escalator to continue feeding into the existing crowd only further raised hair.
If you’re wondering why people are still coming up the LRT, we believe the passengers coming up the escalator could not see the crowded situation at the top of the platform.
After these photos went viral, social media users were quick to criticise RapidKL for the lack of crowd control as well as the long train intervals that were introduced to accommodate upgrading works last month.
Back in May, after the LRT Kelana Jaya (KJ) Line experienced multiple breakdowns and disruptions affecting thousands of Malaysians, RapidKL announced that they will start upgrading works to ensure the smooth running of the train service.
This meant that train frequencies were reduced to a four-minute interval during peak hours while off-peak hours were scheduled for seven minutes.
However, just one day after the announcement, RapidKL’s official Twitter page announced that peak-hour train intervals will be extended to five minutes for the KJ Line, while the interval for the Ampang and Sri Petaling lines would maintain at three minutes.
Following the viral videos, RapidKL’s Twitter account once again reminded users of the changes from four minutes to five minutes for the KJ Line.
Upgrading works along the KJ Line started last month (26-May-2022) when the Ministry of Transport (MoT) allocated RM 800 million for what they know as a “mid-life refurbishment”.
MoT expects that the upgrading works to take at least 6 months to complete, which means LRT users should expect such congestions until at least September.
