CKD 2022 Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan launched in Malaysia; RM 325k, now with Burmester

  • Cheaper than CBU by RM 11k
  • More features like AMG buttons on the steering wheel and Burmester audio system
  • Launched alongside the CKD Mercedes-AMG GLA 35

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched not just one, but two locally-assembled (CKD from the Pekan facility) AMG models – the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and this, the CKD Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan.

Priced at RM 325,090 (OTR without insurance and SST), the CKD Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan is about RM 11k less expensive than the fully-imported (CBU) model, which was priced at RM 336,278 (OTR without insurance, with 50% SST reduction).

After 30-June 2022, the CKD Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan will be priced at RM 343,888 (OTR without insurance, with SST).

Alongside the A35 Sedan, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also introduced the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLA35.

The CKD Mercedes-AMG A35 is available only in sedan form at the moment, while the hatch remains as a CBU model.

Like the CBU model, powertrain comes in the form of an M260 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that makes 306 PS/400 Nm, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power goes to all four wheels via the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

With launch control engaged, the Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds.

Exterior wise, the CKD A35 Sedan mirrors the CBU model with full AMG-Line treatment; more aggressive-looking front bumper with a twin-slat grille, 19-inch twin 5-spoke wheels wrapped with 235/35 profile rubbers, rear spoiler, and a diffuser-style element with dual circular exhaust exits.

Illuminating the roads at night are Multibeam LED headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.

Brakes are 350 mm rotors at the front with four-piston callipers and 330 mm rotors at the rear with single-piston callipers. There’s the AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive dampers.

Inside, the CKD A35 Sedan is also largely similar to the CBU model, save for the addition of AMG steering wheel buttons and the Burmester surround sound system. So the CKD A35 Sedan gets more equipment than the CBU model.

The rest in terms of standard equipment are identical; with dual-zone automatic climate control, sports seats with red seatbelts, aluminium AMG Design trim elements in black and silver, 64-colour ambient lighting, head-up display, and wireless charging.

There’s also the dual 10.25-inch widescreens (one for the infotainment, the other for the instrument display) that dominates the centre stack, running on the MBUX system. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity is supported.

As for advanced safety, the CKD Mercedes-AMG A35 gets Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Tracking Package, Active Parking Assist with 360-degree camera, and Blind Spot Assist.
