Earlier today, Great Wall Motor (GWM) marked their return to Malaysia after a brief hiatus. This time around, GWM is represented by a new management.

The Baoding-based company is now represented by Great Wall Motor Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd and they have big plans for Malaysia. 

Here’s 5 quick facts you need to know about GWM in Malaysia.

CKD is in the works

In order for GWM to price their models competitively in the Malaysian market, local assembly (CKD) is necessary.

And this is where GWM’s previous Malaysian company, Go Auto, comes in. Great Wall Motor Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd will be working hand-in-hand with Go Auto for local assembly works.

Recall that Go Auto used to CKD Haval models such as the Haval H1 and Haval H2 at their Gurun facility a couple of years ago.

Brands to be launched here

Great Wall Motor has a number of brands under them, including the aforementioned Haval, Ora, Poer, and Tank.

Out of which, most of these brands could be offered here in Malaysia, with models to be launched further elaborated below.

BEV and PHEV models to be launched here as well

GWM’s offering in Malaysia won’t be limited to just petrol-powered cars; there are plans for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to be introduced here as well.

Case in point is the Ora Good Cat, which Great Wall Motor Sales Malaysia previewed during the event earlier today.

Furthermore, there was a camouflaged Haval H6 PHEV lurking in the underground car park, hinting that there are possible plans for the company to introduce this model here.

Spare part warehouse in Klang Valley

Even before their models go on sale in Malaysia, Great Wall Motor Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd has assured Malaysians that spare parts shouldn’t be an issue as they will set up a warehouse for spare parts in the Klang Valley for speedy delivery to both norther and soutern regions.

Furthermore, GWM’s Malaysian arm will be working together with their Thai counterpart for parts sourcing, ensuring that there won’t be issues arising due to lack of spare parts.

GWM will be entering a few segments

Upon GWM’s debut in Malaysia, the Baoding-based company will be entering several segments. Those segments include EV, urban SUV, off-road SUV, and pick-up truck. The latter would most likely be represented by the GWM Pao pick-up truck, a Toyota Hilux-rivalling model that we previewed here.
