By now you would already know that Indonesia is fast-tracking its motoring industry towards electric vehicles (EV), so it’s not a surprise that even Toyota has jumped on the bandwagon. Toyota Indonesia previewed the Toyota Kijang Innova EV Concept at the 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS).
And Toyota Indonesia didn’t just put the car on display, they have also released live photos of the concept car testing.

Vice President of Toyota-Astra Motors Mr Henry Tanoto said: “The existence of the Kijang Innova EV Concept is a testament to Toyota's commitment to the government policies in creating a greener ecosystem for a better life.”
Toyota has always been at the forefront of advocating eco-friendly vehicles. Ever since the introduction of the Toyota Prius hybrid in 2009, the company went on to become the largest hybrid manufacturer in the world.

The Toyota Innova, or Kijang Innova as it is known in Indonesia, is the best-selling Toyota model in the ASEAN region. Hence, when creating an EV concept for the region, Toyota had chosen the Innova as the mule.
There’s not a lot of information on the concept car yet, however, what we do know is that the EV will be powered by one electric motor at the front and will have a distance range of 300 km on one full charge. Based on photos, the Innova EV will also come with a Type 2 charger.
At the time of writing, the Kijang Innova EV Concept has already passed several quality testing processes and the Indonesian Ministry of Transport has also given the EV’s safety standards its stamp of approval.
So, it is highly likely that the Kijang Innova EV Concept will be turned into a production car in the future.
But before the EV concept progresses to the production stage, the next generation Innova is expected to come in hybrid (HEV) form.
