Previously, we reported that UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) will be launching two fully-electric (EV) models starting this year, one of which is the Toyota bZ4X. It seems prep work is currently underway for the upcoming EVs as we have sighted three DC fast chargers at the UMWT headquarters.
From what we were able to discern, there are two units of Exicom’s Harmony DC fast chargers with two CCS Combo 2 connectors each, and one unit of ABB’s Terra DC fast charger with a CCS Combo 1 and a CCS Combo 2 connector.
In Japan, the Toyota bZ4X comes with a Type 1 port for AC charging and CHAdeMO for DC fast charging. In Europe, the bZ4X gets a CCS Combo 2 port while the US, it is equipped with a CCS Combo 1 port.
Seeing that there’s no sign of a CHAdeMO connector at UMWT, we’re hazarding a guess to say that the Toyota bZ4X offered in Malaysia will likely be equipped with a CCS Combo 2 port like the majority of EVs officially sold here. The only exception being the Nissan Leaf, which has a Type 1 connector and CHAdeMO.
To recap, the bZ4X is Toyota’s first EV built on a dedicated e-TNGA platform, jointly developed with Subaru. Its Subaru twin is the Subaru Solterra. It packs a 71.4 kWh battery placed flat under the floor with a DC fast charging rate of up to 150 kW, which is able to charge to 80% in 30 minutes.
Globally, there are two variants of the bZ4X on offer. The front-wheel drive (FWD) variant makes 204 PS while the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant has a combined output (two motors, one on each end) of 218 PS. Driving range for the FWD variant in the WLTP cycle is 500 km while the AWD variant gets 460 km.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
