First, they threatened to come down hard on Mat Rempits, now they're placating them; Gov to build drag circuits in every state

During the launch of the 2022 RXZ Members 4.0 Programme at the Terengganu International Drag Strip in Gong Badak, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government plans to build a drag circuit in every state to help enhance the development of motorsports in the country.

The announcement came just days after the government said they were considering tightening the laws on illegal racing. 

The regulations proposed were raising the minimum fine from RM 300 to RM 5,000 to RM 10,000, implicating a jail sentence, and punishments for parents for those aged 18 and below. 

According to a Bernama report, Ismail Sabri stated that the proposal will be included in the 2023 budget that will be tabled in October.

Currently, there are already two drag circuits located in Terengganu and Melaka respectively. The PM hopes that this would allow youths to participate in motorsports activity through proper channels.

Ismail Sabri also called on youths to participate in the MyFit @ Motorsports 2022. In the grassroots motoring development programme organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry, youths will be able to gain knowledge through training courses and clinics.

The programme will also be used to scout new talents for participation in motorsport tournaments and racing at the state and national levels.
