Popular Wuling Hongguang Mini EV goes topless, 280 km range and you can only buy it via a ballot

We’ve seen the many creative ways the owners of Wuling Hongguang Mini EV have modified and decorated the car, now Wuling itself is also joining in with an official convertible version of the popular tiny electric vehicle (EV).

But this isn’t just a matter of cutting off the roof and adding a frameless door, the Mini EV Convertible comes with a host of upgrades that include new LED headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, and also LED tail lamps.

The Convertible also gets a new bumper feature that creates a nice contrast from the old black bumper.

Meanwhile, the Convertible is also slightly larger than the standard Mini EV as the former measures 3,059 x 1,521 x 1,614 mm in length, width, and height while its wheelbase measures 2,010 mm.

Buyers have a choice of either a red top or a black top. Meanwhile, the A-pillar remains a different colour from the rest of the body, just like the standard Mini EV.

As for the battery, the Convertible comes with a 26.5 kWh battery pack that is good for 280 km, no fast charging for the EV as charging the car from 20 percent to 100 percent takes 8.5 hours.

On the safety front, the Convertible gets two airbags, ABS and EBD as standard. It also gets tyre pressure monitor, forward collision warning, and even walk away auto lock.

Unfortunately, interested buyers can’t just head to a store and purchase the car. Wuling requires buyers to enter a balloting session to buy one of these convertibles.
