There's a new 2022 Toyota Hilux variant in Malaysia and it should please workmen looking for a new ride: it's the 2.4E MT, priced from RM 110,880. The full price list in East and West Malaysia are as below:

Replacing the 2.4G MT, specifications of the 2.4E MT are identical to the 2.4E AT. Under the hood is the 2GD-FTV 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine with 150 PS and 400 Nm of torque, and linked to that is a part-time 4WD system.

No automatic limited slip differential (LSD), but there's a locking rear differential and active traction control (A-TRC) to get you out of deep ruts.

It's a pretty workhorsey cabin so creature comforts are relatively bare, with a CD player handling in-car entertainment (well at least there's Bluetooth) through 6 speakers, manual air-conditioning, as well as fabric, manually-adjustable seats.

This variant also gets the new USB-C phone charging port that's extended to all double-cab variants.

None of the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS gizmos make it too – if you need that, get the 2.8 Rogue – but you do get vehicle stability control and hill assist control. You, however, can specify an optional reverse camera, panoramic view monitor (PVM), and a dashcam too.

This new variant joins the updated International Innovative Multi-Purpose Vehicle (IMV) line-up in Malaysia, which has the Fortuner and Innova too. Those, and certain pricier variants of the Hilux, get a new wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay-compatible headunit, alongside a fancier WiFi-enabled dashcam.
