Basic information of my car:

MERCEDES BENZ C200 W204 1.8 CGI

Reasons why I bought this car

When I was young, my father was forced to sell his MERCEDES ECLASS W211 because he was facing some business financial problems. After working hard for a long time, my father's business became successful and want to buy back his dream car, which is MERCEDES. After a lot of consideration, he bought this C200 W204 1.8 CGI which is imported from Japan.

Car Selection Process

I had a budget of: 160k

Models that Iโ€™ve considered included : MERCEDES ECLASS W212 RECOND

We decided to buy C CLASS 1.8T after comparing it with MERCEDES ECLASS. Although w212 has larger space and looks more luxurious than C CLASS, but W212 's appearance and interior is old fashion . The power and fuel consumption of W212 is worse than W204.

At the same price, we can only choose the older E CLASS or newer C CLASS . W204 CGI facelift is equipped with the newest MERCEDES INTELLIGIENT LIGHT SYSTEM, 7G TRONIC gear box and brand new engine 1.8CGI TURBO, which is newest MERCEDES 's engine during 2014.

User experience

  • I have already done 100000km
  • My average fuel consumption is 8L/100km.

After 6 years driving this W204 , the overall experience is good and satisfying.

Although this is a European luxury branded car but it didn't cause too much trouble for me . We just do service on schedule .

However, the only common small problem with this car is the ABS RPM SENSOR. The sensor will malfunction randomly and quite frequently.

After changing several third-party or original parts , it will malfunction again within two years . For me, I have replaced it almost 6 times. The price for 1 sensor including installation is around rm 300-rm400.

The appearance of this FACELIFT W204 is completely different from the previous model, which we called " UNCLE's CAR". FACELIFT W204 has a more sporty appearance, cool LED taillights, and a 1.8turbo CGI Engine with great power transmission and great potential to upgrade.

The power of the 1.8 TURBO CGI is really impeccable. Although the weight of the car is heavier than other Japanese cars but the acceleration of 0-160km/h is really refreshing . When I am driving this car on PLUS HIGHWAY, the chassis of W204 gives me so much confidence and the sound proof for this car is far better than other Japanese cars.

However, the cabin size of this car is seriously compact, especially the back seat. The back seat is only suitable for 2 adults. The LEG ROOM and HEADROOM of the cabin only have very limited space.

As for fuel consumption, it's really another bright spot for this car. In the name of BLUE EFFICIENCY, I can drive from SKUDAI TOL to GURUN KEDAH TOL without refueling.

The petrol still remains around 20% after 5++km of journey

Pros of my car:

  • Driving experience is very good . (Engine power , Transmission , Handling ,Soundproof)
  • The engine is powerful with high fuel efficiency.
  • Mercedes Intelligent Light system is very useful and smart.

Cons of my car:

  •  cabin size is very limited
  • maintenance fee is higher than Japanese cars
  • ABS RPM SENSOR is not durable

Ride Comfort: 3

Fuel Economy: 5

Price & Cost: 5

Summary :

After 6 years of getting along, this is nothing more than a car that I am quite satisfied with except for the space.

If you are a buyer who travels with a family, it is really not a first choice, but if you are a young couple with only a few family members, then you can consider this car.

The second-hand price now for this car is around MYR 60,000-70,000.

I am sure that the new Japanese cars with the same price tag cannot give you the same driving experience .However, buying an old car is really like opening a blind box, so please think twice before purchasing.

Last:

I still remember the first time my mother wanted to drive this car. She feels very nervous when she cannot release the foot brake because Mercedes' foot brake is released by hand instead of foot.
