Basic information of my car:

2020 Subaru XV GT

Reasons why I bought this car

I just got a new job that require me to commute daily around 100KM per day. I am looking for a car that is nice to drive, stable, high ground clearance (due to flash flood is very common in klang valley), and most importantly- Safe! As a women driver, of course appearance or outlook is also one of the point to consider as well.

Car Selection Process

I had a budget of: MYR 100k to 120K

Models that I’ve considered included : Honda HRV,Nissan X-Trail, Proton X70, Subaru XV

Based on the models that I have listed above, to be honest Subaru XV is my option to consider at the first place, until I have done the test drive. I know this is the car that suit me for long distance travel. The handling, the feeling of car planted on the ground when driving, the stability when the car cruising on the highway it just help me to make up my decision. Probably due to the that time, it is the the only car model under my consideration that has been upgraded to new platform (which is the new subaru global platform [SGP]). I am not sure about the latest model of HRV, but when if you jump out from the previous HRV model and straight to the XV, you immediately can feel the difference. Furthermore, it also equipment with 360 camera and Andriod auto and Apple Carplay on this GT variant, hence overall it gives more plus points compare to other variant that under my list of consideration above. Also 3 years / 60000KM free maintenance come with the package plus significant discount also one of the root cause that make up my mind.

User experience

  • I have already done 30000km
  • My average fuel consumption is 7.5L/100km.

The overall experience with this car is quite pleasant. With the new platform, boxer engine (lower center of gravity) plus the AWD features, it is just a good car to drive! In terms of safety, I think Subaru is one of the listed above that come with 7 airbags as standard. Also, with this price range, it also equip with Subaru Steering Responsive Headlights (SRH), it really help during my night time driving. About the fuel consumption, apparently it is not that bad for a AWD car i would say. 70% highway 30% city drive, I can easily achieve 7 to 7.5L/ 100km.

Pros of my car:

  • Good driving experience, just like driving sedan.
  • The car is sturdy in overall, plus the MacPherson shock absorber at the rear, it is just comfortable for the passengers.
  • Equipment with Andriod Auto and Apple carply information system.
  • High ground clearance (220mm).
  • The combination of SGP+AWD+Boxer engine is just perfect match, give the driver a lof confidence.

Cons of my car:

  • The seating position is not as high as expected. Apparently is quite low considered it is a SUV.
  • No auto-lock features as other cars model still having the features.
  • No sound indication when we lock the car. I think it is useful function to help us make sure the car is locked.
  • The availability of service center is limited. (But so far it is always available slot).

Summary :

It is a great car to drive! In terms of size it is just nice for a women driver like me (Not too big, not too small).

Last:

There is flash flood occured right after the Sungai Besi toll. Every cars in front of me is moving slowly and try to find a way out from the "water pond". There is one European luxury sedan just passed by me with certain speed.

Unfortunately, I see the car stop at the roadside not far at the front and with double signals. I also drove through the same area of the "water pond" but my car was safe.

With the features with the car (AWD), I would say it really make me feel more confidence when come across this kind of road conditions.
