After being on sale in Malaysia for slightly more than 2 years as a fully-imported (CBU) model, Bermaz Motor will soon introduce a locally-assembled (CKD) version of the Mazda CX-30. This development isn’t a big surprise, considering that Thailand currently assembles the CX-30 for their domestic market.

Further lending credence to this is the fact that Bermaz Motor did hint that a third CKD model will be added this year, but stopped short of revealing more information.

The outgoing Mazda CX-30 is currently imported (CBU) from Japan and is priced between RM 150,059 (2.0G Core) to RM 173,943 (1.8D High).

According to a now-deleted Facebook post, the CKD Mazda CX-30 is expected to be between 12 to 20 percent cheaper than its fully-imported counterpart, depending on variant.

Furthermore, it seems like the CKD CX-30 variants are expected to be revamped. The entry-level CX-30 2.0G will remain. Sitting above the 2.0G is a new 2.0G High – variant. Yes, the new variant is called “High Minus”.

Then there’s the CX-30 High and CX-30 High Plus variants; the sole 1.8-litre turbodiesel that was the range-topper will be no more.

Production of the new CKD Mazda CX-30 will be at Mazda’s facility in Kulim, Kedah. The CX-30 will be the third model to be locally-assembled by Bermaz, after the CX-5 and CX-8.

It remains to be seen how well equipped the CKD Mazda CX-30 will be. At the moment, the CBU CX-30 gets LED headlights, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, GVC Plus, 7 airbags, and stability control as standard fitment. Upper variants add stuff like powered driver’s seat, leather upholstery and Mazda’s i-Activsense ADAS suite.
