To cross RM 100k in Malaysia? 2022 Honda BR-V is now priced 13% higher in the Philippines

Honda Cars Philippines has announced prices of the second generation 2022 Honda BR-V, which is due to be launched there on 21-November. As expected, prices have moved up in similar double-digit percentages.

The 2022 Honda BR-V now starts in the Philippines at PHP 1,190,000 (~RM 97k) for the cheapest automatic variant, which is around 13 percent more expensive than before. However the increase in price is still lower than the 20 percent move upward seen in Thailand.

Compared to the outgoing generation model, the second generation BR-V is a higher-end product, with a longer list of features and better materials used inside the cabin to justify the higher price.

Where the previous model made do with just 2 airbags, the latest BR-V comes with 6 airbags as standard, while more expensive variants get a Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features similar to the Honda City, but the BR-V adds Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN).

However its Adaptive Cruise Control still misses out on Low Speed Follow (LSF), just like the City.

Despite having an engine with a similar power output and displacement as before, the 2022 Honda BR-V's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine is new, adopting DOHC to replace the previous model's SOHC valvetrain.

It makes 121 PS and 145 Nm (Indonesia market specifications, 1 PS more than before). Transmission is still the same CVT-type automatic driving the front wheels.

In Malaysia, the outgoing Honda BR-V sells for RM 90,700 for the entry 1.5 E variant and RM 97,700 for the 1.5 V variant. We are expecting at least a 10 percent increase in prices when the model is launched here early next year.

The Honda BR-V is locally-assembled at Honda Malaysia’s plant in Pegoh, Melaka.

The BR-V will compete against similiar B-segment 7-seater MPV / SUV-esque models like the Toyota Veloz (from RM 95,000), the ageing Mitsubishi Xpander (from RM 99,980), and of course, the dominating Perodua Alza (from RM 62,500).
