Wee: KJ LRT Line troubleshooting in progress. Experts from system manufacturer on ground 01

Caretaker Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has finally broken his silence regarding the suspension of the Kelana Jaya LRT Line. The MCA President revealed that a team from Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, along with the guidance of experts from the Thales Group, are carrying out troubleshoots to identify the root cause of the disruption.

According to a post on Wee’s official Facebook page, the team started tests on the entire KJ Line from 11.15 pm on Thursday (10-Nov) with 24 sets of trains on the tracks running from Gombak to Putra Heights then back to Gombak again.

Wee said that the team, which also consist of experts from Canada and Turkey, is conducting test runs on the trains so that they will conform to the safety standard.

Other than that, a technical team from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) is also onsite to assist with the testing. The tests were completed at 5 am on 11-November-2022.

Problems along the KJ Line started on Saturday (5-Nov) when one of the electric components on the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system started malfunctioning causing the trains to lose signal with the control centre.

The same problem recurred on Sunday and Monday. It was on Monday evening when Rapid KL decided to suspend services between 16 stations stretching from the Kelana Jaya Station to Ampang Park Station.

According to new reports, trains were “disappearing” from the monitoring screen of the LRT operation and control centre which prompted Rapid KL to quickly suspend the service for the safety of commuters.

Following the announcement that 16 stations will remain closed from Wednesday (9-Nov) until 15-November-2022, social media users started calling for the Prasarana CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah to step down for his failure in managing the group.

When approached by reporters regarding the calls for his resignation, the Prasarana CEO had remained coy by saying that he acknowledges the frustration caused by the suspended service and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

He added that Prasarana is working to solve the problem so operations can resume and that commuters’ safety is the company’s utmost priority.
