Owner review: From Fantasy to Reality, Need For Speed Most Wanted- My 2001 BMW E46 325i

Basic information of my car:

BMW E46 325I 2001

Reasons why I bought this car

I am into cars since I was little. And E46 is always my dream car when I was little since this car is featured in popular video game, 'Need For Speed: Most Wanted'.

Car selection process

  • I had a budget of: RM 25000.
  • Models that I have considered include: BMW E60, Audi A6 C6.
  • Reasons why I chose this car:

E46 have been a bread and butter for BMW used car market. The number of the car made is plenty which make the sparepart to be easily accessible. With the perfect balance of modern complex engineering and simpler classic engineering, the car is easier to maintain compared to more recent car while have a modern look compare to any classic car.

User experience

  • I have already done 20000KM.
  • My average fuel consumption is 0.15L/km

Before this car I used to have various car. I started with Perodua Viva, then moved on to Perodua Myvi and Proton Putra. Compared to the cars that I used to have, BMW hype on the slogan 'Ulimate Driving Machine' and is true to their words. This car is the perfect combination of comfortability and sporty. This car stock HP is 189hp which is higher than most of the recent cars in its price range. It turns amazing that it feel like the car hug every corner that it took.

Pros of my car:

This car design is ageless. While it is 21 years old this year. It still maintain those sporty look. The car is quite fast too with it stock hp. The part is easily accessible and it is easy to maintain if you can find a good mechanic. With a good scanner, you can look problem much easier and try to fix a problem yourself.

Cons of my car:

While this car give me one of the best driving experience, the fuel economic is pretty bad. However this might be due to some sensor failure or engine that is not tune/ maintan properly. For my variant, 6 piston 2500cc, the roadtax is more than RM800 per year and it will need more than 7L of engine oil for every oil change. Because of it's still a BMW, some workshop actually charge the price much more expensive hence it is important to find a good mechanic.

Ratings:

Total Score: 4

Performance: 5

Quality & Features: 5

Space: 5

Ride Comfort: 5

Fuel Economy: 3

Price & Cost: 4

Summary :

This 21 years old car is the bread and butter for modernity and classic. Its perfect balance of less complexity while having some modern features. The car drive amazing, turn around corners amazing and look ageless.

Interesting event:

When I bought this car in 2019, it is not running and in need of restoration. With a good mechanic, I manage to restore this car to its former glory.
