10,700 EVs registered on the road in Malaysia; 100k cars are electrified (including hybrids)

Present at the launch of the BYD Atto 3 was Dato’ Zailani Haji Hashim, Director General of JPJ, who said that there are about 10,700 units of EVs currently registered in the JPJ database.

“As of now, the number of EVs we have registered in the JPJ database is almost 10,700,” said Dato’ Zailani. “But we have another segment of electrified cars which are hybrids of petrol and diesel. For diesel hybrids, we have 2,700 units registered and for petrol hybrids, we have over 80,000.”

“Summing up these segments of electrified cars, we have achieved the number of more than 100,000 units,” he added. Dato’ Zailani expects the number to increase due to the tax incentives EVs currently enjoy.

At the start of this year, MAA reported that only 274 electric vehicles (EVs) were sold in Malaysia, bringing the rough total number of EVs here to slightly less than 1,000 units.
