Owner Review: Proton C segment hatchback, My 2013 Suprima S

Basic information about my car:

2013 Proton Suprima S

Reasons why I bought this car:

Even though this car is launched in 2013, but I think the design of this car still hold itselfs and does not feel outdated in 2022. I like the DRL element very much, along with the hot hatch vibe. This car also have decent rear boot space and basic safety feature.

Car selection process
- I had a budget of: RM 40,000

Reasons why I chose this car:

I am attracted by the design. It has blue colour that are similar to Subaru's WR Blue Mica. It feels like a small brother for Subaru Impreza WRX Hatchback.

User experience:
- I have already done: 9000km
- My average fuel consumption is 9.8km/L

To be honest, I am dissapointed by the engine performance. On paper, 138hp/205Nm seems not bad, but when in actual driving, it doesn't feel like it. When kick down, the acceleration is somewhat sluggish and weird. Punch CVT does not behave like 4AT. When traffic light turns green, flooring the gas pedal will cause jerking movement which is unpleasant. The correct way of driving this car is wait for 1 second after releasing brake to allow clutch engagement, then only you can press the thorttle pedal. Some parts of interior are made from bad quality material, for example: map light and the sliver colour trim panel.

Those parts are brittle and need to change quite frequently. Rear wheel upper arm have a design flaw where the bolt installation bracket will fail easily. When this failed, rear tyre will suffer from uneven threadwear.OCH (oil cooler hose) is also a common issue that plauged Campro CFE series (Preve/Exora/Suprima). This issue felt like a timebomb that are waiting to explode. If this OCH leaked, you only have 30 seconds before engine oil drained to dry. Shall that happen, engine is as good as dead. This is the main reason why Campro CFE series have a low second hand value and they are very cheap on the used market. For me, the keyless feature that still need to poke in the keyhole is very pointless.

Pros of my car:

Good exterior design, sturdy chassis, good handling and stability

Cons of my car:

Low quality of interior trim panel, CVT jerking issue, OCH issue, Immobilizer issue, side mirror auto folding issue, engine insulation is bad, engine only sounded nice in high rpm.

Summary

I like the exterior design, and I don't mind the fuel consumption. If you don't mind taking extra step on car servicing, this is a good car to buy.
