The T33 generation 2023 Nissan X-Trail will make its Southeast Asian regional debut at this weekend’s Singapore Motor Show.

Singapore distributor Tan Chong Motor Sales will be the first Nissan distributor in the region to launch the latest T33 generation X-Trail.

Tan Chong Motor Sales is a subsidiary of the Hong Kong-listed Tan Chong International Limited (TCIL). It also owns TC Subaru, the Subaru distributor in Malaysia.

Not to be confused with Malaysia’s Nissan distributor Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), which is a subsidiary of the Bursa-listed Tan Chong Motor Holdings, Singapore’s Tan Chong operates independently from its Malaysian cousin.

Singapore’s Nissan X-Trail will be launched with Nissan’s signature e-Power series-hybrid drivetrain. Unlike a series-parallel hybrid Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid or a Honda City e:HEV RS, the X-Trail e-Power's series-hybrid 1.5-litre 3-cylinder KR15DDT engine doesn’t drive the wheels, but serves as a generator to recharge the 1.8 kWh high voltage battery - twice the size of a regular hybrid.

A BM46 electric motor that makes 204 PS and 330 Nm drives either the front or all four wheels (drivetrain for Singapore yet to be announced). The latter comes with e-4ORCE AWD technology borrowed from the Nissan Ariya EV, which will also be presented at the motor show.

You can think of e-Power as an electric vehicle that carries its own petrol-powered generator. This arrangement allows the engine to operate at one of two pre-set optimum engine speed range, for the lowest fuel consumption, regardless of the vehicle’s speed.

For Malaysia, the outoing T32 generation X-Trail is expected to soldier on for at least another year. Available either as a 5- or 7-seater, the former is a hybrid. Prices start from RM 136,888 for the entry 7-seater 2.0L 2WD, stretching to RM 161,888 for the 7-seater 2.5L 4WD. The 5-seater 2.0L Hybrid starts from RM 159,888.
