Kia delivered 2,903,619 vehicles in 2022, up 4.6 percent from the year before despite facing strong headwinds due to the global shortage of semiconductor parts. Its top 3 best-sellers are SUVs. The Kia Sportage is its No.1 selling model worldwide, with 452,068 units delivered. This is followed by the Kia Seltos with 310,418 units, and the Kia Sorento with 222,570 units.
These three SUV models contribute 33 percent of Kiaβs global sales for 2022. The company did not reveal its sales figures for other Kia models but said that nearly 80,000 units of the Kia EV6 were delivered. Including the EV6, the figure rises to 39 percent.
If one were to include other SUV models like the Kia Niro, Kia Soul, European market models like the Kia XCeed, and US market models like the Kia Telluride, the figure could easily reach 50 percent, if not more.
For 2023, Kia aims to sell 3.2 million cars. The next immediate new model launch will be the Kia EV9. Kia says the fully electric SUV, which will slot above the EV6, will make its global debut early 2023.
Closer to home, Bermaz Autoβs subsidiary Dinamikjaya Motors will be launching the Kia Sorento soon. It will join the Kia Carnival as the second model to be local assembled (CKD) at the Kia Malaysia plant in Kulim.
