Owner review: The rare and forgotten gem, My Proton Persona 1.6 Standard MT 2019

Basic information about my car:

Proton Persona 1.6 Standard MT 2019

Ad

Reasons why I bought this car:

Due to my work, I need a car with stable chasis, big interior space, and a car with adequate all round performance. I am also favour of 2019 Persona exterior design.

Car selection process
- I had a budget of: RM30K ~ RM 60

- Models that I have considered include: Proton Inspira & Persona

Reasons why I chose this car:

This car is the first car that I ever purchased myself, hence I prefer vehicle with higher fun factor- Manual Transmission is a must. I test driven both Inspira and Persona, but due to vehice age factor, I have choosen the younger and newer Persona.

User experience:
- I have already done: 20,000km
- My average fuel consumption is 100km/ 8l

The day I collected my new car is a rainny day in Kuala Lumpur. I remember vividly on how controllable my new car was. Sharp corner, emergency braking, overtaking vehicle in highway, all can be done effortlessly. Even if my car hit water puddle on highway, I still have the confidence where my car is still in control. I also driven my car to Genting Highland in my rest day. To my suprise, Proton's 1.6 litre engine is not as bad as I thought. The engine is not underpowered, but it has enough puff to climb up all the way. Coupled with the solid chassis and highly refined suspension tuning, Proton Persona gave me remarkable confidence when tackling corners. It can cruise in 160km/h effortlessly. I do feel a strong sense of safety and confidence in this car. I am certain that I did not choose the wrong car!

Pros of my car:

- Big interior space. Seat cushioning is very comfy. Rear boot space is enough for whole family's luggage.

- Persona's performance is better than it's rival, high C/P value

- Maybe due to the Manual Transmission, I feel Persona's engine power output is good enough.

- ABS is good, can avoid wheel skidding effectively.

- NVH is ok to handle daily driving and cobbled road

- Air-Cond is fantastic. Proton's strong reputation on Air-Cond shine in this car!

- Good paint quality.I owned my Persona for 3 years, it still maintained a good white tone without yellowing.

- I always outstation due to work nature, hence I kept the habbit of maintain my car on time. Once I got my car, I upgraded my tyres, rims, headlamp to LED, with a set of Andriod In Car Entertainment and Speakers.Brakes, Suspension, gearbox and battery still original, same as factory spec. So far so good, no major issue yet!

Cons of my car:

- Dashboard rattle sometimes.

- in 160km/h, engine produced a weird noise (sounds like aircraft taking off), only way to avoid that weird noise is to slow down.

- Silverstone tyres from factory is crappy. High roadnoise and no grip.

- Power window issue. It stucked sometimes, need to pull it up. sad.

- Fuel consumption is on the high side. City driving can be quite thristy.

Other than that, my silght complaint about this car is related to the specs. As my car is the cheapest Standard MT 2019, my car only have bluetooth connectivity as in car entertainment. I have to upgrade it myself, by adding in reverse camera. I also upgraded the headlamp into LED.

Summary

It is a very nice car! Good to drive, good handling, good comfort, power is there, with good interior space. I would say, this car have a very high value for money, which is what I exactly need for my life!

If I ever purchased another new car, I will keep this Persona as my daily car.
