The Mazda 2 may be in its 9th year of production, but the spunky B-segment hatchback and sedan’s lifecycle could be extended just for a bit longer, as a leaked brochure depicted yet another update for the model.
According to Japanese sources, Mazda could be introducing the second facelift for the little Mazda 2, slated to arrive later this year.
The Mazda 2 received its first facelift in 2019, in which the model received a sleeker front and rear design, as well as the inclusion of G-Vectoring Plus (GVC Plus).

This time around, instead of the smiley-faced Mazda 2 that’s currently on sale, the update will give it an angrier look, thanks to its revised front bumper with downward-facing air intakes.
Selected variants of the updated Mazda 2 even gain an EV-like front fascia, while the Sport variants get a black-finished grille with a red emblem on the upper right corner. The rest of the updated Mazda 2 look similar to the current model, at least according to the leaked brochure.

Powertrain options are expected to be maintained. Depending on market, the Mazda 2 is offered with a range of petrol and diesel SkyActiv engines. The sole engine option for Malaysia is a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that does 115 PS and 148 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic.
Thailand is the only market where the Mazda 2 is the company's best-selling model, even ahead of its home market, Japan. In every other market, the Mazda CX-5 tops the sales chart.
Last year alone, Mazda Thailand sold 16,249 units of the Mazda 2, cementing itself as the best-selling model in the Kingdom. Second place goes to the Mazda CX-30, with 6,092 units sold, less than half of what the 2 sold.
As for Malaysia, seeing that our units are imported (CBU) from Thailand, it’s only a matter of time before the updated Mazda 2 arrives at our dealerships.
The current Mazda 2 is priced from RM 103,670, applicable to both the sedan and hatchback variants. Mazda’s signature Soul Red Crystal option adds another RM 1,000 to the price.
