• Current Perodua Axia only offers a fixed steering column
• A number of new DNGA-based models offer tilt steering adjustment
• New Vios and Veloz even come with telescopic steering adjustment

Set to arrive as soon as February, development work is underway for the next-generation 2023 Perodua Axia, codenamed D74A.

Now, one gripe we had with the outgoing D93L Axia is its fixed steering column. Furthermore, seeing that the Perodua Bezza shares its mechanical bits with the Axia, said A-segment sedan also has a fixed steering column.

As for the D74A Axia, seeing that it will be developed on the tried-and-tested DNGA platform, could the model offer an adjustable steering column?

After all, other DNGA-based models, like the Perodua Ativa, Perodua Alza, Toyota Veloz, and Toyota Vios all have some form of an adjustable steering column. The latter two even offer tilt and telescopic steering adjustable, a massive upgrade over their respective predecessor models.

Moreoever, DNGA-based Daihatsu kei cars like the Daihatsu Taft and Daihatsu Tanto offer tilt steering adjustment.

So, could Perodua’s upcoming A-segment hatchback finally offer an adjustable steering column? Here’s to hoping.

Elsewhere, the next-gen D74A Perodua Axia will likely soldier on with the current naturally-aspirated 1.0-litre 1KR-VE 3-cylinder petrol engine, but with a new Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT) for improve fuel consumption figures. Perodua claims that the current Axia does up to 4.4-litre/100 km (22.5 km/litre).
