BYD has the revised certificate of entitlement (COE) regulations to thank for its sales boost. To encourage more Singaporeans to adopt mass-market EVs, from May 2022, EVs with up to 110 kW of power are categorised under Category A which is entitled to vehicles with smaller engine output and offers a lower premium.

Previously, the threshold was capped at 97 kW (~132 PS) but owning a car in Singapore is still an expensive purchase. A piece of COE paper can cost up to SGD 86,000 (~RM 278k) for Category A cars (less than 1,600 cc/110 kW) or SGD 105,000 (~RM 340k) for Category B cars (above 1,600 cc/110 kW).
