Spied: All-new 2023 Mitsubishi Triton spotted in Thailand again, bigger than before?

Source

Though pick-up trucks have a longer model life cycle than a regular car or SUV, there comes a time when a new generation is eventually introduced as a replacement. Though it has been nearly ten years since the current generation of the Mitsubishi Triton is introduced; Mitsubishi has given it numerous facelifts and updates.

Spyshots of what might be the next-generation Triton have been spotted in Europe and in Thailand last year and just recently, we’re being treated with another batch of photos that originate from the Land of Smiles.

Published by Thai automotive social media site, MZ Crazy Cars, the supposed next-gen Triton wears a similar camouflage as the one circulated last year but the latest set sees a different number plate adorned on the truck.

Not much can be said about the all-new Triton’s design underneath all that heavy camouflage and the front design appears similarly covered as last year’s set. Perhaps the new Triton might adopt a newer grille design as hinted by the XFC SUV concept that was revealed at the 2022 Vietnam Motor Show.

There is one notable difference this latest set of next-gen Triton photos show as compared to the previous set and it’s around the rear. Unlike the previous spyshots, the latest set has the Triton’s rear window being covered up.

Australian-spec Triton shown

As speculated by Autoindustriya, this unit could be for certain markets like Australia where the outgoing Triton is offered with a powered back window for easier access to the rear bed without getting out of the cab. It’s not unusual for a market-specific model to be doing testing there since the Triton’s production base is in Thailand.

The all-new Triton will be a collaboration with Nissan and its next-gen Navara though the powertrains are likely to be using Mitsubishi units. Rumours have speculated that the 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel (181 PS/430 Nm) could be carried over to the next generation.

Besides the oil burner, the next-gen Triton could also offer a hybrid powertrain as Mitsubishi embraces electrification in all of its models. Still, the Triton Hybrid could only be introduced as early as 2025.
