Owner review: That affordable German C Segment Sedan! My 2017 VW Jetta 1.4TSI

Basic information about my car:

Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI Comfortline (2017)

Reasons why I bought this car:

I was looking to upgrade for bigger and faster car from our previous Perodua Myvi.

Car selection process
- Our budget is tight which was belok RM100k

- Models that I have considered include: Mazda 3 (preowned), Honda BRV, Honda City, Toyota Vios, Hyundai Ioniq 2018

Reasons why I chose this car:

At first, we never had in mind to own any conti car as the stigma shows that conti cars are not good, hard to maintain and expensive parts. Therefore, we only focussed on trying Japanese cars. We test drive some of Japanese and Korean cars. We did submit loan for Mazda 3 (preowned) but somehow it was rejected eventhough the price is similar to our Jetta.

Then 1 day, there was a VW sales advisor introduce me to Jetta. We set up appointment for test drive. The very first time we test drive the car, it was awsome and we straight away put our deposit on the same day. Our Jetta is also pre owned unit (test drive unit). We bought the car that we tested! We were so lucky that the car only came with 1k mileage and with a price tag of RM85k! as we got more discount from earlier price of RM92k.

User experience:
- I have already done: 174000km
- My average fuel consumption is 9km/L

1. Fast and quick. Smooth gear shifting and it's even better with Sport Mode or Manual Mode. I prefer manual mode. More sporty.

2. Never had any major issues even it is famous with its mecha, gearbox, piston issues.

3. after 4 years of ownership, things have been fixed by VW Service Centre (warranty covered): 1. ABS sensors, AC compressor and water pump.

4. 2 things fixed and not cover by warrany: 1. engine leakage and changing timing belt.

5. My time of traveling to other states become shorter and i can go to work a little bit late.

The only thing i worry is the warrant almost end and i never had issues with the mecha, gearbox or the engine.

Pros of my car:

1. fast, quick and powerful for small engine.

2. tough car to be used for working and travelling.

3. Seldom broken.

Cons of my car:

1. Hard to slow down

2. Need to change wear and tear parts frequently. 15k mileage is like 3 months for me. 3 to 4 sets of new brake pads a year. New rotors every year. 2 sets of new tyres every year.

Ratings:

Total Score: 4

Performance: 4

Quality & Features: 3

Space: 4

Ride Comfort: 3

Fuel Economy: 4

Price & Cost: 4

Summary:

Owning this VW Jetta has brought us to a new level. A level whereby you cant find any better car for the same price tag and better performance level. Newer and better car is more expensive.

Interesting Event:

I never had any experience ride on a towing truck.
