RM 7k cheaper than before, new 2023 Nissan Leaf facelift launched in Malaysia

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has launched the new 2023 Nissan Leaf facelift. As before, the EV is fully imported (CBU) from Japan, and is priced at RM 168,888. Previously, the pre-facelift Nissan Leaf was priced at RM 175,800.

For 2023, the Nissan Leaf gets a new full-black front grille, which features the new Nissan brand logo. It is flanked by headlights with integrated LED DRLs and now has black inner finishing.

The front bumper has also been redesigned while at the rear, the spoiler has a new design with enhanced aerodynamic performance. The diffuser element of the rear bumper loses the blue accents. There’s also a set of redesigned 17-inch wheels.

The Nissan Leaf is offered with the roof in Super Black and customers have a choice of up to 7 exterior colours - Stealth Grey, Opera Mauve, Akatsuki Sunrise Copper, Burgundy, Vivid Blue, Pure White Pearl or Midnight Black.

Changes on the inside are minimal, the most notable update would be the new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The interior colour for the leather upholstery comes in either Graphite Black or Stone Grey.

Another new feature is the Intelligent Rear View Mirror, which uses a digital camera that is fed to the rear view mirror to overcome potential obstruction in the cabin.

Powertrain remains as before, with a front-mounted electric motor that makes 150 PS/320 Nm, juiced up by a 40 kWh battery which gives up to 311 km of range in the NEDC cycle.

As for charging, it has a 6.6 kW onboard charger like before but the bigger news is that the 2023 Nissan Leaf now uses a Type 2 connector for AC charging (previously Type 1), while DC fast charging is still done via CHAdeMO, which is rated at 50 kW.

In terms of ADAS, the 2023 Nissan Leaf has been updated to include Lane Departure Warning and Lane Intervention, which gives haptic feedback through the steering wheel. There's also High Beam Assist.

These complement the Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (AEB), and Intelligent Around View Monitor (360-degree camera) with Intelligent Moving Object Detection.

The 2023 Nissan Leaf is offered with a subscription plan. No down payment is required and owners pay a monthly subscription of RM 1,800 for a 3-year contract (terms and conditions apply).

Should they wish to upgrade to other Nissan models at the end of the subscription term, they can easily do so with no worries about disposing the car first; simply return the Nissan Leaf and choose another Nissan or just end the 3-year plan.

Those who purchase the 2023 Nissan Leaf will receive a complimentary 12 months of JomCharge membership (worth RM 600) to use its public charging facilities (107 units AC Type 2 chargers and 30 units DC CHAdeMO fast chargers with 600 credits nationwide), plus complimentary Ice Cool Tinting worth RM 2,200.

For customers using the Subscription Plan, there is a 50 percent discount on Ice Cool Tinting and a RM 300 subsidy for 12 months JomCharge membership.

For 2023 Nissan Leaf owners, ETCM offers complimentary usage of selected Nissan models for 23 days each year (terms and conditions apply) during the first 3 years of ownership.

This will be useful should they have special travelling needs for their balik kampung trips or other exciting adventures. The models available are the X-Trail, Serena, and Navara.

The 2023 Nissan Leaf comes with 3 years or 100,000 km vehicle warranty and 8 years or 160,000 km warranty for the lithium-ion battery, whichever comes first.
