All-new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe (C254) debuts; more standard kit, PHEVs go up to 335 PS/750 Nm!

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe has finally been revealed to the world. Ever so slightly larger than its predecessor – which curiously is still the version sold in Malaysia – this new model also comes with a standard hybrid powertrain across all variants in a bigger, techier package.

A restyled exterior featuring shaplier LED headlamps, a more defined hood, and tauter surfacing throughout the swoopy body are among the key developments.

Can't leave out the new-look LED tail lights too, which look brilliant. Plus the tailgate has a sharper upturn too, for added downforce (at 0.27 cd it's technically as aerodynamic as the Prius), which Mercedes says will help with tuning out more wind noise.

Interior appointments mirror those of the GLC SUV, so with the heavily-restyled dashboard comes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and the new 11.9-inch portrait-style infotainment touchscreen running the latest MBUX software.

In a bid to bump luxury and comfort, the standard kit list is much longer than before too: among them are those large displays, smartphone intergration, wireless phone charging, and heated seats for the driver and front passenger.

Options extend to a head-up display unit, panorama glass roof, and what I would personally pick...the 710-watt Burmester surround sound system with 15 speakers.

And at 4,763 mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,699 mm in height, this GLC Coupe has the same width but is also 31 mm longer, and 55 mm higher than the first-gen model.

Naturally with the longer wheelbase and extended rear overhang, there's added boot capacity too. Gaining 45 litres in total, the mild-hybrid models have 545 litres, the plug-in hybrids have 390 litres, extendable to a respective 1,490 litres and 1,335 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

Europe gets seven variants of the 2023 GLC Coupe. Three of them are plug-in hybrids; while the remainder are mild-hybrids, paired to either a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol or diesel four-cylinder engine.

The mild-hybrid units have an integrated starter-generator (ISG), while the PHEVs receive a 31.2kWh battery. Pure electric driving ranges for the petrol-PHEVs are between 119 km and 131 km; and betwen 113 km and 130 km for the diesel-PHEV.

All of them have the 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain. Outputs are as below:

• GLC 200 (204 PS/320 Nm)
• GLC 300 (258 PS/400 Nm)
• GLC 220d (197 PS/440 Nm)
• GLC 300d (269 PS/550 Nm)
• GLC 300e PHEV (313 PS/550 Nm combined)
• GLC 400e PHEV (318 PS/650 Nm combined)
• GLC 300de PHEV (335 PS/750 Nm combined)

Sports suspension and variable ratio steering are standard fitments, while Airmatic air suspension is an optional extra, bundled with rear-wheel steering.

The GLC Coupe also benefits from the latest Driving Assistance Plus ADAS package, with improved adaptive cruise control and 360-degree camera functions, as well as traffic sign assistance. An off-road mode is also standard.

Prices have not been revealed at the time of writing.
