All-new 2020 Honda City (GN-series) - about RM 3.7k to service over 5 years/100k km 01

It's here - well, at least the S, E and V, pure-petrol variants of the all-new 2020 Honda City for now.

The world-premiering RS still has a way to go, and will only be introduced in January 2021.

In case you missed it...

The new City was launched yesterday, and these are what's different between variants.

And here's the pricing for all variants.

2020 Honda City prices
Variant Price (RM), no SST Price (RM), with SST
S 74,191 76,800
E 81,664 84,800
V 86,561 89,800
RS TBC in Jan 2021

But anyway, we'll be focusing on the maintenance costs in this article, so for super-deep-dives on the City, check out the model page.

Right, how much to maintain the pure-petrol variants only then?

It will be different for the RS, because of different powertrain.

The total cost for maintaining the car at Honda's official centres is marginally cheaper than the outgoing generation (RM 3,880.96, article here).

Works done in the first service are engine oil, air filter, transmission, brake fluid and coolant inspections.

1.5L, four-cyl NA, DOHC i-VTEC (port injection), 121 PS/145 Nm

At the 6-month/10,000 km (whichever comes first) mark, the engine oil will be replaced, in addition to typical fluids and filter inspections. A brake inspection will also be done.

Transmission fluid will be replaced at the 48-month/80,000 km service. The fluid costs RM 129.24, including drain plug washer.

The most expensive service is during the 60-month/100,000 km. This bulk of the cost during this major service comes from the set of iridium spark plugs - costing RM 554.20.

What about tyre costs?

Depending on the variant you choose (and whether you keep your car bog-standard), you could be getting 15-inch or 16-inch wheels.

The tyre sizes are: 185/60R15 and 185/55R16. For that, we have handy suggestions for you.

Don't forget to factor in battery replacements as well.

How much to insure the City then?

2020 Honda City insurance prices
Variant Insurance cost (RM)
S 2,208.47
E 2,402.76
V 2,530.09

These quotes assumes that the driver has zero No Claim Discount (NCD), zero loading, and excludes additional coverage items such as windshield or floor coverage.

In summary, this is the maintenance cost in full:
