The upcoming Perodua D55L (it hasn’t got a proper name yet) is based on Japan's best-selling Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky duo. It's another much-awaited model, and here's your first look at its base car testing on Indonesian streets last weekend.
In Indonesia, this B-segment SUV will most likely be manufactured and sold by Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM).
In an earlier story, we gathered that pre-production of the D55L in Malaysia should commence in mid-September, with mass production beginning sometime in December. If this timeline is still followed, the model’s debut is estimated to take place in January 2021.
Hinted to get a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine paired to a CVT, it’ll also be the first Perodua to be underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform.
If this is your first time reading about it, we've got tons of info lined up for you. First things first, the Perodua D55L's size - it's bigger than a Perodua Myvi, but not quite Proton X50-big.
But wait - cross-shopping notwithstanding, should you even compare these two new Malaysian cars?
Regarding specs, expect an evolved form of Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist to be among the features.
Meanwhile, you could still be on the fence about it - to help find your perfect car, we’ve pitted it against the X50 and the all-new Honda City.
And as usual, we'll let Adrian walk you around the Daihatsu Rocky!
If you do spot one on the streets, do give us a heads up as well on our WhatsApp group and forum!
