Op Samseng Jalanan is an ongoing operation carried out by PDRM as an effort to reduce accidents caused by mat rempits. On 8th June, PDRM reportedly arrested 7 mat rempits aged between 14 to 27. One of them is a civil servant!
According to the New Straits Times, these men were arrested for endangering themselves and others with life-threatening act performed on motorcycles during the two-and-a-half-hour operation carried out on the DUKE Highway.
The 24-year-old civil servant and a 19-year-old were reportedly arrested for attempting to imitate Superman on their motorcycles.
KL Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya noted that the 19-year-old is a repeat offender. He was previously arrested for doing a wheelie at Dataran Merdeka.
Zulkefly went on to report that three of the offenders arrested that night did not possess a valid license. Officers stopped them when they were caught weaving dangerously and performing wheelies on the highway.
These men were also arrested on account of illegally modifying their vehicles to increase speed, using loud altered exhausts, using smaller tyres, and riding without side mirrors, head and tail lights.
All seven offenders have been taken to the KL Traffic Department for documentation in accordance to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
